Telegram Messenger introduced special features to users during a year-end update. These include reactions to messages and translations of messages. They also added themed QR codes and hidden text. Let’s take a look at these new features.
Telegram users can now respond to specific messages with emojis. All private chats have reactions enabled. However, admins can decide whether to enable the feature for channel chats or group chats. A unique animation accompanies each reaction. This feature is already available in apps such as Instagram’s Direct Messaging or Facebook Messenger.
Remember that private chats have a default reaction. You can change this preference by going to settings. Users can access Chat Settings > Quick Response on Android. For iOS users, they can choose Stickers and Emoji > Quick Reaction. After you have selected your preferred reaction, go to Stickers and Emoji > Quick Reaction. It can be your default for most messages.
Administrators can manage reactions by editing the Info Page > Edit > Reactions of their channel or group.
Translate a Message
The app will allow users to translate any message into another language. However, this is dependent on the language translations supported by the operating systems. All Android devices with Telegram support the translation feature. For iOS, however, users must be running the iOS 15+ version of the app. The supported languages are equivalent to those available on the operating systems.
Go to app Settings> Language and toggle the new Show Translate button. You can also choose to exclude certain languages, which will hide any translate button for messages in this particular language.
Spoiler allows users to hide certain text sections using ‘Spoiler formatting. This hidden text is also available in the chat list, and a notification if the recipient taps on the message will reveal the hidden text if they wish.
QR codes with themes
Telegram users can now create QR codes for anyone using their service with a public username. It works with bots, groups, channels, and QR codes. It allows you to showcase someone’s profile quickly. To change the color and pattern, users can tap the QR code icon next to the username. You can print the QR code or share it with other platforms and apps.
macOS – New Menus
Telegram has also updated all context menus for macOS. It includes animated icons and shortcut hints for each menu item.
